The International School on Mass Spectrometry 2022 will be held in the pictoresque small pre-medieval town of Erice,
one of the most attractive location in Sicily.
Located on top a 751 m high mountain, Erice is very famous for its old history, being funded maybe by
Trojans after escaping in the Mediterranean sea about 3000 years ago.
At present Erice is a mixture of ancient and medieval architecture.
You can admire several masterpieces of ancient civilization, such as the Castle of Venus,

Other masterpieces are to be found in the archeological sites of Segesta, funded by the old population of Elymians, Selinunte funded by the Greeks, and the Phoenician Motya.

On the Aegadian Islands — theatre of the decisive naval battle of the first Punic War (264-241 B.C.) — suggestive neolithic and paleolithic vestiges are still visible: the grottoes of Favignana, the carvings and murals of Levanzo.

Splendid beaches are to be found at San Vito Lo Capo, Scopello, and Cornino, and a wild and rocky coast around Monte Cofano: all at less than one hour’s drive from Erice.
Erice is on a mountain by the sea, so the weather can be quite harsh, although mild days can also characterise winter.
The closest airports are Palermo and Trapani.
